Wine of the Week

WOTW 6-5WOTW:  Summer Rose Sampler

2021 Le Grand Valmal “Plaisir de Rosé” Vin de Pays du Gard, France – Made from the Caladoc grape, a hybrid cross of Grenache and Malbec, this rosé is a deep-colored, fuller-bodied style wine. Strawberry and blackberry flavors dominate, and it is rich and round. It finishes with great length and power, plus a bit of peppery spice. Think of it as an alternative to Tavel. This bone-dry Rose can be enjoyed now but will last for another year or so and continue to improve. $14.00

2022 Lulu Dry Rosé, Washington – Finely balanced with a fruit-driven mid-palate, this Syrah dominant Rosé has delicate aromas of dried cranberries, pomegranate, and savory herbs, expressing an excellent ripeness and bright, refreshing acidity. $15.00

2022 G.D. Vajra Rosato Rosa bella, Piedmont, Italy – Rosabella is a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. It captivates with its purity and refinement, blending young peaches with sweet mint and lemon oil to form its enticing bouquet. Soft and giving, it balances exotic spices with crisp orchard fruits and citrus while cleaning up beautifully through the close. Traces of green apples and minerals linger and keep you looking back at the glass for more. Vinous: 91 $20.00

2022 Proprietà Sperino Rosa del Rosa, Piedmont, Italy – Made from a traditional blend of 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina grapes, this is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next year or two. Ripe, red-fleshed fruit, citrus, and floral accents are all framed by clean mineral notes. Creamy and textured in feel, it is delicious as an aperitif but also has enough depth and overall complexity to offer fine drinking at the dinner table. Vinous: 91 $28.00

2021 Domaine de la Potardiere Gamay Rosé, Loire Valley, France – This small winery is located in the small town of Loroux Bottereau in the Loire Valley. Managed by the Coullaud family for generations, this estate makes elegant wines from classic grape varieties. Their rosé is made from Gamay Noir grapes; this light-bodied rosé shows pretty aromas of freshly picked strawberries, raspberries, leafy red currants, and grapefruit peel. $13.00

2022 Vincent Wine Company Rosé, Willamette Valley, Oregon – This unique rosé is made mainly from Pinot Gris grapes grown at Zenith Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills. They blend a bit of Gamay and Pinot Noir to create a rosé they like to drink – not too ripe but with good fruit and length. It offers notes of zesty, bright watermelon and tangy pomegranate fruit character that is refreshing and delicious. Winemaking: Whole cluster pressing, juice settled for two days, then racked into neutral French oak. Native yeast and malolactic fermentations, no stirring, but we do keep these barrels warm to ensure they finish fermenting by spring. Aged for five months in a barrel, bottled without fining or filtration, harmless natural sediment may develop in the bottle, and only minimum effective SO2 is used. $29.00

$119 Retail value for only $105!
