2020 Quinta do Infantado Douro Tinto, Douro Valley, Portugal – This red “table” wine is 2/3 Blend is Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), 1/3 blend a mix of field varieties. Deep purple in color. Expressive aromas of bramble, rose, cream toast, blackberry, blueberry, plum, wood box, with softer aroma of earth. Continuing to the palate, flavors of black currant, cooked blackberry, and tobacco. Mid palate with round smoke, burnt sugar, and leather. This is a dry wine with medium-plus acid, high, chalky tannins, medium body, medium-plus flavor intensity, rounding to a medium-plus finish. $28
2021 Barlow Vineyards Merlot, Calistoga, Napa Valley – Perched atop Spring Mountain, Barnett is one of the most evocative sites in the region. Winemaker David Tate makes wines that show the richer side of the mountain to great effect. There’s plenty to explore in this set of new releases from proprietors Fiona and Hal Barnett. The 2021 Merlot is a gorgeous, intriguing wine. Hints of blood orange, cinnamon, mint, dried rose petal and sweet red cherry give the Barlow Merlot a striking nuance to match its earthy, savory personality. This is far from an easygoing Merlot. 2019 d’Arenberg Grenache, Derelict Vineyard, McLaren Vale, Australia – This robust red shows a good mix of plum, cherry and toasted herb flavors, plus notes of lingonberry preserves. Firm and dense tannins add an appealing chewiness to the profile. Details of tobacco, dark chocolate and black licorice linger on the finish. Drink now through 2031. Wine Spectator: 92 $30
2019 Bodega Vivanco Crianza, Rioja, Spain – Composed of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Maturana Tinta, the wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels. It opens with aromas/flavors of ripe red fruits, spices, and toasted-smoky notes. The palate is pleasantly fresh and round, with an elegant, persistent finish. JamesSuckling: 90 $19
2024 Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc, Old Vine Reserve, Stellenbosch, South Africa – This Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc is matured for nine months in 400-liter oak barrels. It has a harmonious bouquet with orange blossom, pineapple and beeswax scents. The palate is well balanced and fresh with a lovely texture. Honeycomb and light stem ginger notes build toward the brisk and focused finish. $19
2019 Chateau Carbonneau “Pur Jus” Bordeaux, France – A blend of Merlot and Malbec grapes, the younger generation of Carbonneau is showing their innovative flair! It offers ripe and round black cherry and blackberry fruit with a light spice accent and very supple finish. A tasty, modern take on Bordeaux! $14

2023 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc, Languedoc, France – This mouthwatering blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Colombard and 30% Rolle (Vermentino) offers inviting floral aromas and plenty of bright, zesty citrus and stone fruit flavors that linger nicely on the supple finish. $13
2022 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rouge, Languedoc, France – A blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 20% Carignan, this is a Rhone-style blend with deep red fruit flavors and a light spicy note from the Syrah, with a bit of a lift at the finish from the Carignan. A serious “bistro” red. $13
2022 Henri de Richemer Viognier, France – This coastal Viognier has a wonderfully mouth-feel and is jam packed with ripe peach fruit. A nice pop of citrus on the finish provides freshness. $12
