2021 Acuma Red Jumilla, Spain – This blend of 50% Monastrell, 40% Syrah, and 10% Petit Verdot starts with aromas of black olive tapenade, cranberry, and dried Mediterranean herbs that really draw you in to this garnet-colored wine. It has flavors of pomegranate, cranberry, and black raspberry. The tannins are smooth and velvety, and the finish has touches of crushed purple violets and dark chocolate. Wine Enthusiast: 91 $15.00
2019 Création Grosset Cairanne Cru des Cotes du Rhone, France – There’s a nice winey feel to this Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre, and Carignan red, with dark plum and cherry puree flavors mixed with spice and mesquite notes. The palate follows with lush layers of plum, blackberry, and raspberry, accented by subtle cocoa and a smooth chocolate note on the finish. Balanced acidity and gentle tannins make this wine easy to enjoy, with a velvety texture that lingers gracefully—a versatile and crowd-pleasing Merlot. $20.00
2018 Pali Wine Co. Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills, CA – Pali’s Highland Chardonnay offers classic Sta. Rita Hills notes of hazelnut, citrus zest, and brioche. Savory notes of butterscotch linger on the rich, yet crisp finish. $28.00
2022 Hess Collection Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA – Dripping with ripe dark fruits, this wine mixes sweet cocoa for a flavorful wine that reveals cracked pine and cherry tobacco through the finish. Wine Enthusiast: 90 $40.00
2022 Carol Shelton “Wild Thing” Old Vine Zinfandel, Mendocino, CA – This dark ruby colored Zinfandel from Carol Shelton is old school and a great value. A blend of 76% Old Vine Zinfandel, 14% Old Vine Carignane, and 10% Petite Sirah, it opens with a very fragrant blackberry jam bouquet with hints of boysenberry, black tea, and pencil lead. On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied with medium-plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, fresh, and very fruit-forward. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry and cranberry blend with notes of stony minerality and black tea. I also detected hints of oak, boysenberry, and black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate dusty tannins linger and last for a bit. I would pair this Zinny Zin with your favorite steak fajita recipe. Wine Spectator: 92 $20.00
